1.9. Annotations are not visible while working with a third-party app

If you open the PDF file, which was annotated in Documents 6, using a third-party app (e.g. a cloud storage app or an email client) and do not see your edits, this means that the third-party app you use might not support all the advanced features supported by Documents 6 app. For example, the third-party app does not display annotations and PDF form's data you filled in while all the annotations and data remain in the PDF file.

There are two ways to cope with the issue:

1. When you open the file in a third-party app and do not see the edits in a PDF file, transfer the file to the advanced PDF editor app (e.g. PDF Expert 6 or Adobe Reader) to see all your edits and keep on working with a file. On your iOS device, tap Actions  button   and choose 'Copy to PDF Expert' to transfer the file.

2. After you finish editing the file in Documents app, save the file as a Flattened copy and send it by email or save to the cloud storage app. This way, any third-party app will display edits.

Flattening is a process of applying all annotations, form data and markups to a PDF. No changes can be made to annotations or form data after the flattening.

Flattened PDF files are used:

● When you need to apply all annotations to a PDF in order to prevent further modification.

● To complete the form.

● To apply a signature.

● To make annotations viewable in simple PDF readers.
